Critical Analysis
With a repetitively parallel-patterned black cosmic background, it can easily be observed that this is a study of an item, an animal skull particularly, with a staunchly dark set piece to promote contrast--and could even tie to the gray, almost mystical mood of the entire work. With a landscape orientation to fully grasp the outer cracks and scuffs within the long, curved antlers of this demised critter, the skull is captured in a natural, all-revealing angle. The artwork, with its specific content, could be interpreted as not much more than an on-the-nose examination of beauty after death, or even simply death itself.

The impression of this unknown mammal's skull relies, or at least used to rely, on dominant, dark lines, which came out of softer, layered sketches. many of these lines were shaded inward to portray the smooth texture seen within different surfaces of the skull, but strong line-work can still be seen within areas of complex pattern and detailed structure within the innards of the skull.
